The Whistle Stop Child Development Center

Enrollment Information

The center is open to children between the ages of six weeks and pre-kindergarten with admission preference being given to children of VA employees.  Both full-time and part-time enrollments are possible.  Scholarships for VA employees may be available for those with limited income.  As space becomes available, siblings of currently enrolled children will be enrolled, with children of VA employees having first priority.

Mainstreaming of those children with physical, mental, or sensory impairments is encouraged.  Adaptations will be provided to the extent possible.

Enrollment is considered complete when:

  1. A child and parent have visited the program.
  2. All necessary paperwork is completed.
  3. All required fees have been paid.
  4. The parent has had an orientation meeting with the Executive Director or the Director's designee.

You may enroll on a full-time or part-time basis.  Once your schedule is set, changes to the schedule must be approved by the Executive Director.  Full time enrollment entitles a family to 10 hours per day of care.  Half days entitle a family to a maximum of 6 hours per day; morning schedules are any hours between 6:00 am and noon.  Afternoon hours are any hours from noon to 6:00 pm.

Children will generally move up to the next group in September when the oldest children have graduated to kindergarten.  The criteria for movement is developmental readiness.  Children will not be pushed into inappropriate moves.

An initial registration fee of $50 per child will be due at the time of registration.  The registration fee is non-refundable.
