Parent Activities

You are encouraged to volunteer in your child's classroom.  Your participation, in addition to being fun for you will show your child that you are interested in his/her activities.  The other children will get to know you, your child will feel proud and experience an enhanced level of self-esteem, and you will have input into your child's activities.

Preschool parents are especially encouraged to come on field trips; extra hands allow for much more individualized attention while the children are away from their classrooms.

Board Members
Parents are invited to be Whistle Stop Board Members to serve and provide their input on policy and budget making.  The board meets quarterly.

Room Parents
The Room Parent evolved as a role to serve as a liaison for communication between parent and administration.  Parents volunteer as Room Parents.  The role is separate and independent of the Board.  A Room Parent  represents each of the Whistle Stop six rooms.  They help spearhead projects or fundraising events, like our Teacher Appreciation Event.

Yahoo Group
The Whistle Stop has a Yahoo Group email system.  This provides notices of school closures, monthly newsletter, holidays and events and communication.  Enter your email address below to sign up for the Yahoo Group.

Room Activities
Parents are encouraged to share their talents during circle time or come to read to the students.   Whistle Stop has an open door policy and parents can drop in at any time to be with the children or have lunch with the students.  Preschool has numerous activities that include field trips with the support of parent volunteers to help attend and transport students.

Scholastic Book Programs
Whistle Stop provides scholastic book ordering with a percentage of sales providing books for the classroom.

Parent Meetings and Conferences
There are all school parent meetings held several times a year to update parents on administrative issues and provide a forum for announcements and discussion of pertinent topics.  Preschool conferences are provided to evaluate the readiness of students for transitions, especially the readiness for kindergarten.

Whistle Stop Logo Items
The Whistle Stop sells logo items  all year round.  Proceeds from the sale of items helps fund school events.  To visit our web site of logo items, click here.
