The Whistle Stop History

The Whistle Stop was established through a generous endowment from the estate of Dr. Franklin G. Ebaugh Jr., the former Chief of Staff, Palo Alto VA Hospital. The Whistle Stop opened in 1994.

An integral part of the Whistle Stop prestige is due to the efforts of Laeh Bat-Simcha, Director from 1994 until her retirement in July 2011.

The center is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a nurturing environment for children and their families. The Whistle Stop is governed by a Board of Directors. Members of the Board are parents of VA and Community Children, as well as Alumni Parents.

PHILOSOPHY

The Whistle Stop is a developmental play-based program for children ages 6 weeks to pre-kindergarten.

Our program recognizes that children are capable individuals. They are acquiring developmental skills in an order appropriate for the individual child.

Teachers provide consistent and safe limits. Parents are kept informed of their child's activities, assuring consistency between home and school.

The diversity of each family, their culture and values are honored. Families are encouraged to become involved in their child's classroom and school wide events.
